Combine your solar system with a heat pump

With a solar system you produce the electricity for the heat pump cheaply and sustainably yourself, on your own roof. If you have abuffer tank that stores hot water, you can use even more solar power, both for heating and drinking water. In the case of a new installation, the photovoltaic system can be connected directly with the heat pump. If you already have a heat pump, many models can be retrofitted.

A heat pump uses electricity to run the compressor and fans. This electricity can be partially be provided by your solar system. This means that instead of being fed back into the grid, much of the surplus solar energy will supply the heat pump with solar power. Even better, many new heat pumps are reversible in order to cool your home in the summer when your solar systems produces the most power. This is not only a greener way of living but will also save you a lot on your utility bill.

If you don't have a heat pump and don't plan on getting one in the near future it can be a great idea to connect your solar system to your hot water boiler. The most efficient boilers that can be connected to a solar system are heat pump boilers, which are built to communicate with your system's inverter. You can also connect a normal electric boiler and even a boiler heated by oil and gas. In the latter two cases, you might need an extra heat rod and thermostat. Our solar and heating experts will help you choose the right connection for your system.
